We don’t believe in keeping secrets from the people who trust us. We aim to be completely transparent with our business. This includes discussing some of the complex issues other companies find it difficult to be open about, such as international supply chain and corporate funding models.
Nativ Basics is a private company, fully Australian owned, operated and funded. No overseas addresses to save on taxes. No outsourcing to overseas call centres or design hubs. Every time you call us, send us an email, or chat with us on social media, you will be talking directly to someone who is involved in the business, passionate about our brand, who cares about what you have to say.
We are self-funded. This is important as there are no outside investors dictating any of the decisions we make, pushing profits over principles.
Our Supply Chain
We believe Australian materials, products and services are of an undeniably high quality and wherever possible we support Australian companies. When the concept of Nativ Basics was born, our founder Sandy, extensively researched to source a local, Australian manufacturing company that could manufacture her designs, unfortunately she is still yet to find one that exists in Australia. So, when we simply cannot find an Australian partner or if an international supplier has the superior technology, we see no choice but to utilise it to our benefit and see no issue with doing so.
Regardless of where our materials and products are manufactured and sourced, we require rigorous trading terms to ensure our supply chain is free from all forms of worker exploitation. All of our suppliers are hand selected and meticulously tested to ensure they comply with our social responsibility principles. We meet with our suppliers prior to doing business and maintain regular contact through the delivery cycle. We also rely upon the assessment of Third Party International Auditors of Social Performance In Global Supply Chains (Amfori BSCI). Some of the key benchmarks we have for auditing our suppliers include zero tolerance for child labour, discrimination, corruption, bribery, animal cruelty, and ensure safe working conditions and fair pay.
The materials used in our products are sourced from a range of countries. These include Austria, China and Australia. We are honest about this and have nothing to hide. We pride ourselves on using the highest quality materials and workmanship, which is our top commitment and takes precedence over the country of origin.
The raw materials and the fabric we use originates from Austria. This is because Austria produce the highest quality beech trees in the world and their lenzing technique is superior to any other. Our cutting and stitching is done in Hefei, China, with world leading efficiency and production capabilities. All other processes are completed in Australia, including all of our underwear designs, sales and marketing, graphic design and brand management, storage, picking and packing, stock handling, shipping and distribution and most importantly, customer service.
As global citizens we believe the best person deserves the job, regardless of who they are, what their background is, and where they are from. We have the same philosophy with our suppliers. As long as our suppliers comply with our strict expectations, we will not discriminate against them because of where they are from.
A Word From our Founder
“I started this business with the vision to do better and create a sustainable company that cares about the planet and its people. At the centre of every decision I make, is a word that gets thrown around a lot, sustainability. When starting this journey, I was under no assumptions that this would be easy, but it turns out that being a sustainable company has its challenges beyond thought. There are so many challenges when it comes to sustainable business that it often feels overwhelming. So, I try to make change every day no matter the size. Measuring our impact allows Nativ to continually make changes from the bottom up, that are better for our planet and its people.
We Are Not Afraid of Change
We are always open to suggestions on how to improve our products. This commitment is not only directed at physical adjustments to the final garment. If a supplier can offer a comparable or higher quality output with improved sustainability through its own unique production techniques, we would love to know about it.
If you send us your suggestions, we will promise to review them. We are all in this together.
